The Robinson R44 is a four-seat piston helicopter manufactured by the Robinson Helicopter Company. It was first certified by the FAA in late 1992, and has since become a popular choice for both personal and commercial use. Before the R44, there was no other four-passenger piston helicopter on the market.
In terms of performance, the R44 has a cruising speed of up to 117 knots and a maximum range of around 400 miles. Its maximum gross weight is 2400 lbs (Raven I) or 2500 lbs (Raven II), with a payload of around 994 lbs. The helicopter can fly at a maximum density altitude of 14,000 feet, but the FAA limits its use to a maximum of 9,000 feet above ground level to make emergency landings easier.
